For last 60 years the Judiciary of Pakistan has been constantly making its way into the Transparency International list as the second most corrupt institution after Police. Two main pillars of the state whose primary concern is maintenance of Law and Order are the real culprits of the corruption. Yesterday, CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry announced that he will try to eradicate this menace with the help of the lawyers and people. Ones minds flicks, how will he do that when he him-self is a part of that system? The justice game in Pakistan lasts longer than person life. A single trial takes years and decades to settle, with unexpected outcome. This condition has lead to stigma of raw justice and violence in certain areas like swat. It is an absolute fact that, when people will be deprived of speedy justice, there will be a speedy change in trends.
To bring about a change is not easy, but one should strive for it. However, one man can’t do it alone. Lawyers and the people must assist in this great cause. Lawyers should stop fooling around people and judges should stop taking backdoor money. As the current system is vulnerable to nepotism. An institution should be created to appoint respected and honest judges in the judicial hierarchy.
Not only judiciary but other state institutions should also tackle this rampant menace of Corruption. It is said that, “The more corrupt the state, the more laws.””
